The band consists of four young women who grew up in Athens and are related to one another, but they are also united by their love of music, dance, and singing.
It was the prominent role of the voices in their polyphonic ensembles that led them to form the group Asma Cordis. They choose to approach the traditional Greek repertoire with a contemporary polyphonic interpretation, while at the same time they have also explored traditional and folk repertoires from around the world.
Asma Cordis means “song of the heart” (the word Asma comes from the Ancient Greek word “άσμα,” meaning song, and the Latin phrase cor-cordis, meaning heart).
The band has collaborated with numerous talented musicians and has participated in a wide range of festivals in Greece and abroad (Sweden, the United States, Ireland). During this time, the group is also preparing and recording its first album, featuring covers of traditional songs with original arrangements.
