SATURDAY, JULY 4
Morning hike
"Poulithra – Agios Georgios"
Meeting point: Poulithra Port 8:00
The second of the two hikes to be held as part of this year’s Melitzazz invites us to follow the coastal trail that starts at the port of Poulithra, passes through the cove of Agios Georgios, and ends at its little church.
In the early 20th century, a merchant from Leonidio (G. Kourtesis), who was transporting wine and olive oil, was shipwrecked with his caique off the coast of the cove during a storm, but he survived. In honor of his patron saint, he built the small church at this site, using wine instead of water, and placed an inscription at its entrance that reads:
Which rich man died and took his wealth with him—only a shroud two cubits long to wrap his body?
The church’s feast day is an important celebration for the residents of Poulithra, who travel there every year by road and by sea on small boats to honor Saint George.

Guidelines for Hikers
Hiking in Greece during the summer is a unique experience, but it requires thorough preparation due to the heat and other conditions. Here are some basic guidelines:
1. We avoid the hottest part of the day
The hikes will take place early in the morning so that they are completed before 12:00. The hours between 12:00 and 16:00 are the most dangerous due to the heat wave.
2. Hydration
We have brought enough water for everyone (at least 1.5 liters per person).
We drink often, even when we're not thirsty. We can include electrolytes.
3. Appropriate equipment
We wear light, light-colored clothes.
Καπέλο, γυαλιά ηλίου και αντηλιακό είναι απαραίτητα.
We choose appropriate hiking shoes.
4. Respect for nature
We don't leave trash behind.
We take care of and protect the local wildlife (e.g., snakes).
We avoid lighting fires and smoking due to the high risk of fire.
Listen to your body! If you feel tired or unwell, stop, find some shade, and notify your guide immediately.
Participation requires good physical condition and a sense of responsibility.
